New Year’s Gift to Operation Smile
This year, we choose to support Operation Smile, an international aid organization founded in the USA in 1982 and in Sweden in 2010.
The organization’s vision and mission are to ensure a future where all people with cleft lip and palate and other surgical needs have access to safe surgery that improves health and quality of life, even in low- and middle-income countries.
Every three minutes, a child somewhere in the world is born with a cleft lip and palate. However, the huge lack of safe surgery leads to many people not receiving the right care in time. Many of these children suffer severe malnutrition and problems with teeth, speech and hearing. Operation Smile works to ensure that children and adults have the opportunity to live a normal life.
Operation Smile works long-term to strengthen healthcare in low- and middle-income countries. By training more surgeons, nurses and other healthcare professionals, it increases access to care so that more children and adults can receive help through surgeries, dental care, speech therapy, and psychological support. Each surgery changes a patient’s life forever!
